Agentic systems, especially hardware-integrated ones, are the worst possible thing that could happen to humanity. They represent a terrifying, dystopian concept that I can see coming to pass.
With the announcement and release of NVidia RTX Spark, I feel this take post is necessary.
Hardware-integrated agentic systems are goddamn TERRIFYING, and somehow nobody realizes this. An agentic system with bare metal access to your system?? How does that sound like a good idea to anyone??
The number of laptops that are being developed that have built-in hardware support for agentic systems is HORRIFYING. They are trying to give AI access to every part of your digital life, and it is scary how many people are fine with it. This is quite literally the first step to 1984-level mass surveillance. It's common knowledge that the government can access anything they want on your computer, whenever they want. But this is just blatant! What's to stop the system agent from monitoring you for "suspicious activity?" What's to stop it from notifying the government if you download a file it doesn't like? This is an actual issue and nobody is taking it seriously!
And the people touting the fact that the megacorporations have "promised that it doesn't monitor you outside of prompts" piss me off. You truly believe that NVidia wouldn't lie to you? You seriously think they're telling the complete truth? Why would you trust the word of a company that exists to increase its revenue?? They just want to collect data, and this is literally the perfect way for them to do it. What better source of data than the victim's own computer? Who needs to scrape the internet for profiling when you can just scrape their filesystem?
And the government. Oh, the government. There exists no universe in which the government DOESN'T use this as a mass-monitoring system. Say something the government doesn't like? They can just tell the agent to monitor your activity, no problem! Government wants to ban a piece of information that they want to keep quiet? Just ask the agent to monitor for that information and destroy it if detected. We can even automatically report and profile the person in possession of the information!
Seriously, this is going to be the death of privacy and anonymity. AI is already taking away our creativity; are we just going to stand by and watch as it takes away our right to privacy too?
This is the beginning of the end for humanity. I know it sounds dramatic, but if we continue down this path, only bad things lay ahead. And people need to recognize that more.
